Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Underground Construction Project Manager to manage underground mining-related projects in our Prairie Division, based in Saskatoon, SK. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and day-to-day operations of mine-related construction projects, providing technical and operational direction to Project Superintendents and Engineers, and serving as a key on-site liaison with client representatives, subcontractors, and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure construction operations are well-organized, coordinated, and comply with client and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop construction plans to ensure the completion of projects.
  • Assist the estimating team as a technical expert for construction projects.
  • Ensure projects meet budget and timelines by reviewing work requirements, schedules, and cost reports on a continuous basis and participating in project reviews and forecasting.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all safety programs and policies.
  • Analyze technical construction issues and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Coordinate all resource requirements for projects, including personnel, equipment, materials, etc.
  • Maintain strong working relationships at job sites with client representatives, subcontractors, suppliers, and employees.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of qualified employees.
  • Supervise personnel and address staff development requirements, including assessing performance and identifying training needs.
  • Manage the mobilization of resources for new projects and ensure that activities are coordinated in an efficient and timely fashion.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost-saving initiatives to enhance project efficiency and profitability.
  • Manage contractual agreements, change orders, and claims to mitigate project risks and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.

Requirements

  • 12-15+ years of underground mine and surface-related construction experience as a Construction or Operations Manager or similar direct supervisory role.
  • Engineering Degree, Technical Diploma, Journeyman Trade Certificate, or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in building a strong safety culture.
  • Solid understanding of current construction practices and previous mine construction experience is an asset.
  • Experience in civil/mechanical/electrical/structural construction.
  • Experience developing construction estimates and working with the proposal team developing construction methodologies as part of bid submissions.
  • Experience working with EPCM oversight.
  • Proven ability to guide safe work practices in a high-pressure environment while maintaining project safety, quality, schedule, and budget.
  • Strong foundation in project management, contracts, and the execution of projects from the estimating stage through construction.
  • Solid understanding of the procedural needs for modern construction planning, FIWP, SWP's, etc.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with multiple project stakeholders, interpret stakeholders' needs, and identify solutions.
  • Capable of anticipating constructability issues in complex situations and creating solutions in the construction plan and schedule. Able to influence and persuade others to adopt a point of view.
  • Track record of building successful teams and promoting teamwork through motivation, coaching, and consensus-building.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication (written, and verbal) and computer skills are critical. Must be proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook with the ability to use scheduling software.
