About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Assistant to contribute to our team at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will conduct various analytical and programming tasks required to develop and conduct detailed population-based mathematical modelling analysis of HIV, hepatitis C (HCV), and other infectious diseases.

Key Requirements

Master's degree or equivalent in a quantitative discipline such as infectious disease epidemiology, population biology, mathematics, theoretical physics, computer science, or a similar field.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of epidemiology
  • Excellent computing skills, preferably in Python or Matlab
  • Good working knowledge of deterministic models and complex individual-based/network models
  • Good working knowledge of ODEs, linear algebra, calculus, and basic statistics
  • Ability to prioritize work and deliver to tight deadlines
  • Ability to interact with other academics, especially in other disciplines represented at the BC-CfE and the project team
  • Ability to develop and apply new concepts and develop new ideas
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication and to creatively and efficiently present results
  • Ability to organise own work with minimal supervision
