Job Title: Research Assistant (Mathematical Modelling)

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Research Assistant to conduct analytical and programming tasks required to develop and conduct detailed population-based mathematical modelling analysis of HIV, hepatitis C (HCV), and other infectious diseases.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and run simulations of infectious diseases (population level)
  • Conduct data analysis
  • Estimate model parameters from empirical data
  • Conduct a systematic and critical review of the literature
  • Maintain strict confidentiality related to identification and release of study data

Requirements:
  • Master's degree or equivalent in infectious disease epidemiology, population biology, mathematics, theoretical physics, computer science or a similar quantitative discipline
  • Excellent computing skills (preferably Python or Matlab), experience with version control, unit tests, writing clear and readable code
  • Good working knowledge of deterministic models and complex individual-based/network models
  • Good working knowledge of ODEs, linear algebra, calculus, basic statistics
  • Ability to prioritize work and deliver to tight deadlines
  • Ability to interact with other academics, especially in other disciplines represented at the BC-CfE and the project team
  • Ability to develop and apply new concepts and develop new ideas
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication and to creatively and efficiently present results
  • Ability to organise own work with minimal supervision
