Main Purpose and Function

The City of Vancouver is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Housing Planner to join our Planning, Urban Design & Sustainability team. As a key member of our professional team, you will play a critical role in implementing parts of the City's new Housing Vancouver strategy over the next 10 years.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership, coordination, and planning expertise to secure affordable housing through planning and development processes.
  • Implement City-wide inclusionary housing policies, such as the Sustainable Large Development Rezoning Policy, and contribute to the development of rezoning policies and district schedules.
  • Lead complex negotiations with private sector applicants to secure on-site affordable housing and employ a diverse range of analytical techniques to develop effective housing projects.
  • Build strong relationships with non-profit/co-op partners to renew and redevelop their land and buildings, and collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to develop partnerships that will effectively implement housing projects.
  • Prepare and present Affordable Housing Project reports and recommendations to senior staff and City Council, and supervise a staff team by developing individual work plans and performance objectives.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A university graduation at the Masters level in planning or a related discipline.
  • Thorough professional related experience at a responsible level, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of current housing and land use policies of the City of Vancouver and other levels of government, as well as municipal development approval processes and regulations.
