Job Summary

WoodGreen Community Services is seeking a skilled Crisis & Resource Counsellor to join our team. As a Crisis & Resource Counsellor, you will provide critical support and guidance to individuals in crisis, utilizing your expertise in crisis intervention and resource navigation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to telephone and webchat referrals, providing empathetic and informative support to individuals in crisis.
  • Conduct initial assessments to determine the most appropriate response to each situation, utilizing standardized tools and protocols.
  • Assess risk and safety, ensuring the well-being of individuals and those around them.
  • Provide supportive counselling, crisis de-escalation, and short-term case management services as needed.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, community services, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless support and referrals.
  • Maintain accurate records and statistical data for analysis and evaluation purposes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or a related field.
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
  • 2+ years of experience in telephone counselling, crisis intervention, and supporting older adults and caregivers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated intake/triage experience and strong assessment skills.
  • Self-directed and independent, with experience working collaboratively with others.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in crisis response, supporting individuals with mental health/substance use, and commitment to harm reduction.
  • Knowledge and experience supporting older adults with geriatric issues, such as dementia and responsive behaviors.
  • Strong ability to build relationships with diverse individuals.
  • Excellent oral and written English fluency and communication skills.
  • Cultural competency and ability to communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Thorough knowledge of community resources and services.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills.
  • Applied computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, databases, and the internet.
  • Experience in outreach, public presentations, and workshops.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, flexibility, and contribute to a team's effective functioning.
  • Effective problem-solving and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to follow policies, procedures, and legislation.
  • Proficiency in French or another second language is an asset.
