Maintenance Operator, Water Production

The City of Ottawa's Water Production branch is seeking a skilled Maintenance Operator to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of process equipment and process vessels at our water purification plants and remote facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine maintenance tasks on process equipment and vessels, including cleaning, inspection, and repair
- Operate and maintain various systems, including metering and valve control systems, raw water, treated drinking water, and effluent water systems
- Conduct chemical unloading and handling of process chemicals, diesel fuel, and sodium hypochlorite
- Participate in the mitigation, clean-up, and reporting of chemical spills in an industrial environment
- Collaborate with skilled trades staff to complete tasks and ensure compliance with regulations
- Completion of Grade 12
- Minimum of 3 years of environmental, industrial, or chemical-related work experience in an industrial or laboratory environment
- Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver's license (or provincial equivalent) with 0 demerit points accumulated
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods training certificate approved in Ontario
- Ability to obtain and maintain Ontario MOE Operator-in-Training Drinking Water Treatment Operator Certificate and Class 1 Drinking Water Treatment Operator Certificate
- Working knowledge of mechanics, functions, and emergency shutdowns on tanker trucks
- Working knowledge of chemistry, physics, hydraulics, and electrical devices
- Relevant Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change acts, regulations, standards, and guidelines
- Relevant Ontario Ministry of Labour (MOL) acts, regulations, standards, and guidelines
