Job Summary

The City of Ottawa's Water Distribution Branch is seeking a highly skilled Water Distribution Engineer to manage the operation and maintenance of the city's water distribution system. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the continuous and adequate supply of high-quality potable water to customers at the lowest cost.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering, with experience in water distribution system design, operation, and maintenance. They will be able to provide technical leadership, project management, and functional supervision to a team of water distribution staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the operation and maintenance of the city's water distribution system
  • Provide technical leadership and project management for various projects and contracts
  • Develop and implement repair, maintenance, inspection, and improvement programs for the water distribution system
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure effective service delivery and service improvement initiatives
  • Develop and maintain documentation, guidance, training, and technical support for water distribution staff
Requirements
  • Completion of a 4-year university degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in a public works or utility environment
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
  • Ontario MOE Drinking Water Distribution Operator Certificate at the appropriate level is an asset

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read and review engineering/technical reports, documents, and drawings
