Job Title: Strategist, Global Brand

We are seeking a highly skilled Strategist, Global Brand to join our team at the Wikimedia Foundation. As a key member of our Communications team, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of one of the world's most beloved brands: Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing brand strategies that align with the Wikimedia Foundation's mission and 2030 strategic direction. This will involve conducting research, analyzing data, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to create effective brand plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a library of brand assets and materials, ensuring consistency across all platforms.
  • Coach and educate volunteers, partners, and collaborators on the correct usage of brand materials.
  • Work with insights analysts to maintain and improve tools for measuring brand health around the world.
  • Extend and refine the Wikimedia brand guidelines to meet the evolving needs of Foundation staff, teams, and users.
  • Review and respond to requests to use the brand from Foundation teams, partners, and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with data teams to unearth powerful insights to inform brand positioning, planning, and marketing.
  • Co-develop deceptively simple future-focused strategies to answer complex questions posed by Foundation teams, partners, and volunteers.
  • Draft data-informed, actionable brand communications, creative, and design briefs.
  • Act as a brand guardian, providing focused feedback to creatives on brand application, ensuring consistency across tone, language, personality, visuals, and messaging.
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in brand strategy, with a strong understanding of core brand strategy frameworks.
  • Experience working on global brands in non-US or EU markets, with a proven ability to conduct research across audiences, competitors, and the market.
  • Collaborative mindset, with a proven record of working well across a wide range of disciplines from PR to Product, Design to Donor Relations.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback to agencies and creatives to deliver work in line with our brand guidelines and vision.
  • Data-driven performance measurement planning, with the ability to recommend measurement approaches to our data teams, track results, analyze data, and use these findings to optimize future brand efforts.
What We Offer

The Wikimedia Foundation is a remote-first organization with staff members including contractors based in 40+ countries. Salaries at the Wikimedia Foundation are set in a way that is competitive, equitable, and consistent with our values and culture. The anticipated annual pay range for this position is US$74,026 to US$113,266, with multiple individualized factors, including cost of living in the location, being the determinants of the offered pay.
