About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Forester to join our team in the Forest Service Branch, located in Prince Albert and Meadow Lake. As a Forester, you will play a key role in protecting Saskatchewan's environment and promoting sustainable forest management practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with a strong team of operations staff to regulate forest industry operations and ensure compliance on Crown forest lands.
  • Lead the review and approval of forest industry operating plans, which authorize the harvest of forest products.
  • Participate in and lead compliance-related activities, including field investigations, to ensure adherence to environmental regulations.
  • Lead or participate in public consultations with various stakeholders, including First Nations and Métis communities, to develop and implement sustainable forest management strategies.
  • Assist the Area Forester in providing forest policy direction and management expertise to other branches and government ministries.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of coaching, guiding, and development strategies to lead a diverse team and promote a healthy, productive work environment.
  • Knowledge of ecosystem-based forest management principles and legislation related to forest resource utilization and administration.
  • Knowledge of harvesting, road construction, and decommissioning, as well as boreal forest silviculture.
  • Knowledge of process and policy development, and the strategic planning process.
  • Knowledge of compliance and enforcement theories, including natural resource law principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, facilitate, and lead public consultation processes with various stakeholders.
Working Conditions
  • Fieldwork year-round, including travel throughout Saskatchewan, including remote locations and overnight stays.
  • Operation of a 4-wheel drive pick-up truck and all-terrain vehicles in off-road conditions.
