Indigenous Recruiter Job Description

Located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the xwméððkwéyððm (Musqueam), Såððwððmesh (Squamish), and séðlilwétaðð (Tsleil-Waututh) Peoples, the City of Vancouver seeks a dedicated Indigenous Recruiter to join our Human Resources team.

The Indigenous Recruiter will play a key role in developing relationships with local First Nations, Urban Indigenous, Métis, and Inuit communities and organizations, and will be essential in advancing the City's Indigenous Recruitment Strategy outlined in the UNDRIP strategy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the end-to-end recruitment process for Indigenous-focused roles, ensuring a fair, equitable, and welcoming experience for all applicants.
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies that align with the Equity Framework and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to develop job postings, interview plans, and selection criteria that reflect the City's commitment to reconciliation and Indigenous inclusion.
  • Source and participate in Indigenous Career Fairs and networking events to attract top talent from Indigenous communities.
  • Provide coaching and support to Indigenous candidates throughout the recruitment process, ensuring a culturally safe and inclusive experience.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, and stakeholders to promote the City's Indigenous Recruitment Strategy.
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Business Administration or a related field, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Proven experience as a Recruiter, with a strong understanding of recruitment practices, including legal requirements, candidate sourcing, interviewing, and offer negotiation.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and history, including awareness of First Nations and Urban Indigenous peoples.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to represent Human Resources and understand the interests of First Nations and Urban Indigenous peoples.
