Indigenous Recruiter Job Description

Located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the xwméðèyâm (Musqueam), Såðèwòçmesh (Squamish), and séðèlíwâtað (Tsleil-Waututh) Peoples, the City of Vancouver seeks a dedicated Indigenous Recruiter to join our Human Resources team.

The Indigenous Recruiter will play a key role in developing relationships with local First Nations, Urban Indigenous, Métis, and Inuit communities and organizations, and will be essential in advancing the City's Indigenous Recruitment Strategy outlined in the UNDRIP strategy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the end-to-end recruitment process using the principles of justice, equity, decolonization, and inclusion (JEDI)
  • Develop relationships with local First Nations, Urban Indigenous, Métis, and Inuit communities and organizations
  • Source and participate in Indigenous Career Fairs and networking events
  • Liaise with the Indigenous Employee Resource Group and Indigenous Relations office on Indigenous recruitment initiatives and City projects
  • Mentor Indigenous candidates throughout the recruitment process
  • Guide hiring practices that align with the Equity Framework and are fair, equitable, and welcoming of all applicants
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract Indigenous talent
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to develop job postings and interview plans
  • Conduct due diligence checks and negotiate salary and offer terms with candidates
  • Collect and audit required documentation for competition files
  • Respond to candidate inquiries and advise candidates of process and/or application status
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Business Administration or related field
  • Experience functioning as a Recruiter with proven experience building recruitment strategies and consulting/advising Managers about marketing and sourcing options
  • Experience working with local First Nations groups, including Urban Indigenous communities
  • Relevant lived experience combined with working knowledge of people with barriers, including social inequity, racism, colonialism, and marginalization-related barriers
