About the Role
The Export Controls Specialist will support the business units and the Global Export Controls team in documenting, executing, and monitoring the company's export compliance program.
This role is a maternity leave replacement for a 13-month contract.
The ideal candidate will have experience in high-tech corporate environments, excellent command of English and French, and proficiency in IT systems.
A Snapshot of Your Day
- Support and maintain transactions under the internal export controls program to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Review shipments and classification of hardware in ERP systems.
- Review technology transfers for licensing requirements.
- Ensure conformance to export requirements and company policy.
- Perform classification of technologies and assign licenses in IT systems.
- Review customer and supplier databases against sanctions lists.
- Assist in the determination of export permits requirements and support the preparation of export permits submissions.
- Support the review of IT systems for compliance with Canadian legal requirements.
- Maintain records of all permitted exports.
- Support the quarterly export audits and reporting.
- Conduct export compliance audits in IT systems.
- Assist in the provision of trainings in support of the company export controls training program.
- Assist in the continuous improvement of export processes, procedures, and work instructions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, law, or business, or college diploma in legal technique.
- Experience in high-tech corporate environments.
- Excellent command of English and French, both oral and written.
- Proficiency in IT systems, including Microsoft suite.
- Experience in a legal and/or regulatory environment.
- Eligibility to be nominated as a Designated Official under the Controlled Goods Program.
What You Bring
- Experience and knowledge of Canadian Export Controls, Controlled Goods Program, and Export Administration Regulations.
- Experience in conducting audits and self-assessments.
- Experience in drafting and processing export permit applications.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple files simultaneously.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Discretion and confidentiality of records.
