Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Export Controls Specialist to support our business units and Global Export Controls team. The successful candidate will be responsible for documenting, executing, and monitoring our export compliance program, ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and maintain transactions under our comprehensive internal export controls program.
- Review shipments and classification of hardware in ERP systems to ensure compliance with internal processes and regulatory requirements.
- Review technology transfers for licensing requirements.
- Review access requests to Canadian systems and technologies.
- Ensure conformance to export requirements and company policy.
- Perform classification of technologies.
- Assign licenses in various IT systems.
- Review customer and supplier databases against sanctions lists.
- Assist in determining export permit requirements and supporting the preparation of export permit submissions.
- Support the review of IT systems for compliance with Canadian legal requirements.
- Maintain records of all permitted exports.
- Support quarterly export audits and reporting.
- Conduct export compliance audits in IT systems.
- Assist in providing training in support of our export controls training program.
- Assist in the continuous improvement of export processes, procedures, and work instructions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, law, or business, or college diploma in legal technique.
- Experience in a high-tech corporate environment.
- Excellent command of English and French, both oral and written.
- Highly proficient with IT systems, including Microsoft suite.
- Experience in a legal and/or regulatory environment.
- Eligibility to be nominated as a Designated Official under the Controlled Goods Program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience and knowledge of Canadian Export Controls, Controlled Goods Program (CGP), and Export Administration Regulations (EAR) as well as applicable industry practices and standards in export compliance.
- Experience in conducting audits and self-assessments.
- Experience in drafting and processing export permit applications.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple files simultaneously.
- Very good organization and excellent sense of resourcefulness.
- Rigor, meticulousness, and precision in the execution of tasks.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Discretion and confidentiality of records.
