Psychiatric Nurse Specialist

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join our Inpatient Psychiatry Unit at Fraser Health. As a key member of our interprofessional care team, you will provide and coordinate the delivery of psychiatric nursing care services to patients, demonstrating nursing expertise and clinical leadership in evidence-based practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients, identifying actual or potential problems and strengths through nursing diagnosis and interventions.
- Participate in and support the total therapeutic program of the Unit, actively collecting information from various sources to enable the provision of appropriate nursing care.
- Communicate and consult with members of the healthcare team about patients' care, setting priorities, assigning, and delegating tasks to support staff.
- Act as an advocate to protect and promote patients' rights to autonomy, respect, privacy, dignity, and access to information.
- Participate in quality improvement activities and research by identifying patient care issues and collecting data.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Ability to complete initial and ongoing mental health and substance use client assessment and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety-type interventions, including crisis intervention.
- Knowledge of mental illness and substance use treatment, psychopharmacology, counselling, and group facilitation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with patients, families/caregivers, the public, medical staff, and members of the interprofessional care team.
