As a Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), you will provide clinical leadership in evidence-based practices through direct care activities, including nursing assessments, crisis intervention, patient and family education, and health promotion activities. Your key responsibilities will include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for assigned patients, identifying actual or potential problems and strengths, and participating in quality improvement activities and researchResponsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care of assigned patients.
- Identify actual or potential problems and strengths through nursing diagnosis, plan interventions, perform planned interventions, and evaluate outcomes.
- Actively participate in and support the total therapeutic program of the unit.
- Collect information from various sources using skills of observation, communication, and physical assessment to enable the provision of appropriate nursing care.
- Write timely and accurate reports of relevant assessments and observations, including patient and family education, and evaluation of nursing care.
- Communicate and consult with members of the healthcare team about patients' care; set priorities, assign, and delegate tasks to support staff; participate in interprofessional conferences; explain the plan of care to patients and their family.
- Act as an advocate to protect and promote patients' rights to autonomy, respect, privacy, dignity, and access to information.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Ability to complete initial and ongoing mental health and substance use client assessment and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety-type interventions, including crisis intervention.
- Counselling and group facilitation skills.
- Knowledge of mental illness and substance use treatment.
- Knowledge of psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects).
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with patients, families/caregivers, the public, medical staff, and members of the interprofessional care team.
- Ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for patients/families/caregivers, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, including advocacy for special populations.
- Ability to educate patients and families/caregivers about topics essential to their health care and well-being.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $100,000 per year, depending on experience.-
