We are seeking a Dockworker in our Thunder Bay office to join our team, reporting to the Dock Lead Hand. This position is responsible for completing various warehouse tasks at the Winnipeg terminal, primarily focusing on trailer unloading and associated paperwork.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect and count freight for damages, shortages, or overages
- Unload trailers and place freight in the correct area of the warehouse
- Unload freight according to established unloading procedures
- Move freight to minimize claims and optimize the unloading process
- Maximize efficiency by optimizing time and unloading process
- Complete bills of lading and other shipping documents
- Maintain an organized and clean dock area
- Follow all safety procedures to promote a safe work environment
- Dispose of garbage in designated areas to avoid hazards and keep the dock clean
- Perform other duties as necessary to meet the goals and objectives of the dock
Qualification Requirements
A High School diploma with a minimum of two years' experience in a fast-paced logistics environment, specifically with freight, is required. Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills are essential. The ability to work with minimal supervision and be a team player is also necessary.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands of this Dock position are above average. The incumbent must be able to lift up to 50lbs from shoulders to floor, bend and twist consistently, stand and walk all day, and perform other physically demanding tasks. A good sense of balance, hand and foot coordination, and the ability to assess weights and judge distances and heights are necessary. The ability to work in varying temperatures and operate small equipment such as power jacks, forklifts, and hand dollies is also required. Personal protective equipment must be worn at all times.
