Critical Care Nurse

We are seeking a skilled Critical Care Nurse to join our team in the Cardiac Services department at Fraser Health. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a talented group of healthcare professionals who share your passion for delivering exceptional patient care.
Job Summary
The successful candidate will provide direct patient care, assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care to patients in an acute medical unit. The role involves working collaboratively and in partnership with the interprofessional care team in the provision of person-centered care.
Responsibilities
- Assess patients and collect information from a variety of sources using skills of observation, communication, data review and physical assessment.
- Make a nursing diagnosis of the patient's condition and determine whether the condition can be improved or resolved by an appropriate nursing intervention.
- Plan, perform and evaluate nursing interventions and care.
- Collaborate with patients and their families/care givers in developing the care plan and encourage family participation in the development, implementation and ongoing modification of the care plan.
- Establish a therapeutic relationship by demonstrating empathy, trust and respect, advocating for the patient's rights to privacy, dignity and access to information, and ensuring the patient's choice and autonomy in decision making and care planning.
- Participate in the care and discharge planning process for patients on admission by ensuring the care plan is established and implemented effectively, updating care plan and intervening as appropriate, collaborating with the interprofessional care team to ensure comprehensive care planning and delivery, and collaborating and communicating with the Patient Care Coordinator on issues that will affect the care/discharge plan.
- Coordinate nursing care for the patient; set priorities, assign and delegate tasks to support staff, and make referrals to the interprofessional care team according to established protocols and practice standards.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Completion of Cardiology component of Post Basic Critical Care course, or post basic High Acuity Course, approved Arrhythmia interpretation course plus one (1) year's recent experience in cardiac monitoring or telemetry unit, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current Basic Rescuer Certificate.
