Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Estimator to join our Project Delivery & Construction team at TransAlta. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in providing leadership, support, and guidance to our project teams and ensuring the successful delivery of large-scale renewable energy construction projects.

About the Role

The Senior Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate, cost-competitive, and timely project cost and schedule estimates. This will involve analyzing client RFP documents, prioritizing quote requests, and distributing them to vendors and subcontractors. You will also use standardized tools and processes to prepare project estimates and complete take-offs to calculate estimate quantities and units of work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare project cost and schedule estimates using standardized tools and processes
  • Analyze client RFP documents and prioritize quote requests
  • Distribute quote requests to vendors and subcontractors and analyze responses for accuracy, completeness, and efficacy
  • Complete take-offs to calculate estimate quantities and units of work
  • Identify project risks and record them in the Risk Register during the preparation of estimates
  • Present and lead-by-example with a safety and quality-oriented attitude
  • Create estimate-related bid proposal documents to meet RFP submittal requirements
  • Gather details and maintain current market data to accurately estimate construction, material, and soft costs associated with project construction

Requirements

  • University degree in engineering, construction management, or related field; or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience estimating self-perform utility-scale construction or equivalent experience with combination of self-perform utility-scale and industrial electrical system construction
  • 4+ years of experience leading a team of estimators for specific project pursuit estimates; preferred
  • 4+ years of field-based construction estimates; preferred

Essential Experience

  • Experience with EPC and BOP estimate structure to create proposals for large-scale and utility-grade renewable energy power plant construction projects
  • Ability to recognize and recommend alternative designs/scope definitions that support consistency, standardization, and cost competitiveness
  • Demonstrates thorough understanding of tasks and processes associated with constructing utility-grade renewable energy projects
