About The Job

The Children's Aid Society of the District of Thunder Bay is seeking a Support Services Specialist to join our team. This role provides support to Child Protection Workers in the Marathon District Office, with a primary focus on scheduling and facilitating supervised access.

This position requires a wide range of social service support functions that contribute to therapeutic plans and programs for individuals, families, children, and youth receiving services from the Marathon District Office. The successful candidate will provide supportive, educative, and empowering assistance to families and/or children and youth involved with the Agency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scheduling and facilitating supervised access for families and children/youth
  • Providing social service support functions to contribute to therapeutic plans and programs
  • Working collaboratively with Child Protection Workers and other stakeholders to achieve goals and outcomes
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with families and children/youth to provide individualized support and guidance
  • Assessing and addressing immediate risk concerns during interactions with families and children/youth

Requirements

  • Child and Youth Worker Diploma or equivalent combination of education or experience
  • Candidates with other academic qualifications and related work experience, plus demonstrated ability, will be considered
  • Strong knowledge of child development and the stages, processes, and milestones of normal physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Effective organization and planning skills to prioritize tasks and manage competing demands
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Reliable vehicle, safe driving record, and valid G Driver's Licence
