Job Title: Senior Counsel (Anticipatory)

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Counsel (Anticipatory) to join our Tax Law Services Portfolio team at the Department of Justice Canada. As a Senior Counsel, you will provide legal and strategic advice to the Canada Revenue Agency on operational issues at the investigative stage of domestic and international tax offence investigations and prosecutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal and strategic advice to the Canada Revenue Agency on operational issues at the investigative stage of domestic and international tax offence investigations and prosecutions.
  • Provide legal and strategic advice to the Canada Revenue Agency on policy and program issues in the area of criminal law and related programs.
  • Provide training to the Canada Revenue Agency on criminal law matters.
Requirements:
  • Eligibility for membership in the Bar of one of the provinces or territories of Canada.
  • Extensive experience providing legal advice in criminal or regulatory offence prosecutions or investigations, or conducting criminal or regulatory offence litigation, or a combination of both.
  • Significant experience leading a criminal or regulatory offence advisory work and/or criminal or regulatory offence litigation.
Language Requirements:

Bilingual Imperative (various profiles), English Essential and/or French Essential

Knowledge and Competencies:
  • Knowledge of criminal law and procedure, including applicable provisions of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
  • Demonstrating integrity and respect, thinking things through, working effectively with others, showing initiative and being action-oriented.
Conditions of Employment:

Reliability, Secret, or Top-Secret security clearance (depending on position). At the time of the appointment, you must be a member in good standing of the Bar of one of the provinces or territories of Canada.
