About the Role

As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will provide expert legal advice to our organization on matters related to financial institutions, insurance, and risk assessment. You will work closely with our Director, Legal Services, to provide strategic guidance on legislative and regulatory policy, contract negotiations, and disputes. Your expertise will be invaluable in shaping our corporate communications and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including federal regulators and other government agencies. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Ottawa or Toronto, with a hybrid work model.

Core Responsibilities

As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for providing high-quality legal advice and support to our organization. Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Providing legal advice on regulatory, legislative, and policy issues related to financial institutions and insurance;
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement policies and procedures;
  • Providing strategic guidance on contract negotiations and disputes;
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with federal regulators and other government agencies;
  • Providing expert legal research and analysis to support business decisions;
  • Preparing and reviewing contracts, agreements, and other legal documents;
  • Providing training and guidance to staff on legal matters.

About You

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Counsel who is passionate about serving Canadians and making a positive impact. You will be a strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders. You will have a strong understanding of Canadian law and regulations, particularly in the areas of financial institutions and insurance. You will also have experience in providing legal advice and support to senior executives and boards of directors.
