About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Designer to join our team at BWX Technologies. As a Mechanical Designer, you will play a critical role in the design and development of mechanical equipment and systems for CANDU reactors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the technical direction for overall project and technical interfacing to both internal and external customers.
  • Work closely with the Mechanical Engineering department to design mechanical equipment and systems for CANDU reactors.
  • Develop conceptual and detailed designs, and perform design calculations, assessments, and studies.
  • Prepare technical documents, including drawings, bills of material, and specifications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Procurement, and Manufacturing.
  • Provide technical support to project teams, vendors, and customers.
  • Participate in design reviews and customer review meetings.
  • Occasional travel to customer site locations within Ontario.
Requirements
  • Mechanical Engineering Technologist (CET) or equivalent with related mechanical design experience.
  • Experience with 3D parametric CAD software, preferably with SOLIDWORKS or Autodesk Inventor.
  • Working knowledge of fundamental drafting techniques and practices, including GD&T.
  • Ability to independently create drawings using various software packages.
  • Knowledge of machining practices and manufacturability constraints.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in design of mechanical systems.
  • Membership in OACETT or other certifying organization.
  • Experience with PDM (Product Data Management) for CAD file management.
  • Knowledgeable with Ontario CANDU or other industry ECC (Engineering Change Control) processes.
  • Experience in the CANDU Nuclear Industry.
  • Familiarity with CSA Nuclear Codes and Standards.
  • Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes and Standards.
  • Knowledge of machine design and DFMA.
