Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Designer to join our team at BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. in Peterborough, Ontario. As a Mechanical Designer, you will play a key role in supporting the technical direction for overall projects and technical interfacing to both internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, model, and draft designs for automated and semi-automated equipment using various 2D and 3D CAD software packages.
  • Collaborate with other design personnel and teams of Professional Engineers and Technologists in an engineering environment.
  • Produce and update detail part drawings, assembly drawings, layouts, and bills of material.
  • Apply dimensional tolerances (GD&T) and manufacturability/assembly (DFMA) techniques.
  • Provide technical support to Engineering, Procurement, and Manufacturing personnel.
  • Participate in design reviews and customer review meetings, preparing and presenting technical data.
  • Occasional travel to customer site locations within Ontario.
Requirements
  • Mechanical Engineering Technologist (CET) or equivalent with related mechanical design experience.
  • Experience with 3D parametric CAD software, preferably with SOLIDWORKS or Autodesk Inventor.
  • Possess working knowledge of fundamental drafting techniques and practices, including GD&T.
  • Ability to independently create drawings using various software packages.
  • Knowledge of machining practices and manufacturability constraints.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in design of mechanical systems.
  • Membership in OACETT or other certifying organization.
  • Experience with PDM (Product Data Management) for CAD file management.
  • Knowledgeable with Ontario CANDU or other industry ECC (Engineering Change Control) processes.
