Job Summary

Kiewit Energy Canada is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety Manager to join our team. As a key member of our safety team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our employees, subcontractors, and consultants on energy construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety plans and procedures specific to energy projects, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and Kiewit's safety standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and assess safety risks, providing guidance on safety-related certifications and qualifications required for specific job roles.
  • Lead investigations into safety incidents, near misses, and accidents, analyzing root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure timely reporting of all safety incidents in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay informed about changes in safety regulations and standards applicable to energy construction, coordinating with regulatory authorities during inspections and audits.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure safety performance on projects, conducting regular assessments and audits to evaluate adherence to safety standards and identify areas for improvement.

Requirements

  • Education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety management, ideally with a focus on energy construction projects.
  • Professional certification in safety management (e.g. NCSO) preferred, along with CPR/First Aid, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification, and OSHA/MSHA instructor certifications.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and travel to project sites as needed.
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies, and a strong work ethic, with a willingness to do what it takes to get the job done.
