Job Summary

The Trainmaster is a key role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of trains and rail yards. As a Trainmaster, you will be responsible for supervising operating crews, Yardmasters, and support staff to ensure compliance with safety protocols and operating plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise operating crews and Yardmasters to ensure safe and efficient train operations
  • Investigate safety incidents and implement corrective actions
  • Conduct efficiency tests and safety-related activities to support a safe and efficient operation
  • Manage a team of employees, including recruitment, development, and performance management
  • Ensure compliance with CPKC's policies and collective agreements
  • Manage inventory and rail cars, including idle cars for 24 hours or longer
  • Understand business requirements, service commitments, and service penalty conditions for customers

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Previous railway experience
  • Previous operations-related experience an asset
  • Must be able to understand the Operating Plan and Local Service Operating Plan
  • Qualified Locomotive Engineer an asset
  • Must become Conductor or Engineer qualified and occasionally operate trains
  • Must be or become rules qualified (CROR - Canadian Rail Operating Rules)
  • Must maintain certifications and licenses
