Senior Director of Student Affairs

The University of British Columbia seeks a visionary leader to serve as the Managing Director of Student Affairs. This key role will provide strategic direction and oversight to a wide range of units and programs responsible for enhancing student engagement and experience on the Vancouver campus.
The successful candidate will establish priorities and commitments for the Student Affairs unit, aligned with the UBC Student Strategic Plan and other campus-wide objectives. They will lead strategic initiatives to advance inclusive excellence, enhance student success, and ensure access to meaningful learning experiences.
Key Responsibilities- Establish a vision and provide leadership for the Student Affairs units, including the Centre for Accessibility, Centre for Community Engaged Learning, Centre for Student Development and Leadership, Sexual Violence and Prevention Office, and International Student Development.
- Cultivate relationships with student leaders, including student members of the Vancouver Senate, Alma Mater Society, and Graduate Student Society.
- Develop and implement strategies to support and enhance professional development and workplace experience for staff across Student Affairs.
- Oversee the development and implementation of initiatives to advance inclusive excellence and student success.
- Ensure alignment of objectives and related programming with broader portfolio goals.
- Provide administrative leadership and educational expertise to the strategic development of program objectives.
- Masters' degree in a relevant discipline. Ph.D. preferred.
- Minimum 12 years of progressive, senior-level leadership experience, preferably in an academic setting.
- Experience fostering environments and advocating for equity, diversity, and inclusion of all students.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead complex and challenging negotiations with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Senior-level experience in planning, directing, managing, and evaluating complex services.
- Knowledge of emerging best practices, delivery models, and protocols in higher education across the student services portfolio.
- Experience leading complex and challenging negotiations with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Proven ability to educate on intersectionality, power, privilege, and systems of oppression.
- Proven people leadership skills.
- Ability to inspire, coach, and build capacity in a team toward achievement of organizational goals and priorities.
