Job Summary

The Community Coordinator will serve as the primary local representative of Thompson Rivers University (TRU) for the communities of Barriere, Chase, Clearwater, Lillooet, Williams Lake, and Kamloops. This role will provide, assist, and facilitate programming, services, initial advising, and orientation for TRU in the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct educational and training needs assessments in the community, maintaining contact with local educators, Indigenous groups, associations, businesses, and industries to identify program and course requirements and demands.
  • Assist in identifying the need for educational brokering arrangements with other institutions.
  • Develop partnerships with community organizations, industry, and government agencies to provide relevant, cost-effective training.
  • Develop proposals, including budgets, worksheets, marketing, and other necessary materials.
  • Schedule courses, create course budgets, maintain financial records, purchase supplies, and forward records to the finance department.
  • Prepare contracts for part-time instructional staff, create professional service agreements for contractors, and evaluate instructional performance for non-credit courses.
  • Ensure registration, class lists, handouts, and other required resources are in place, input class marks, and complete certificates for distribution.
  • Resolve client and student complaints.
  • Assist in developing marketing and advertising materials, researching trends, community interests, and expectations, and proofing marketing materials.
  • Recruit instructors, schedule courses, book facilities/rooms, and ensure layout is appropriate for the course.
  • Conduct regular advertising of courses and programs via various means, including newspapers, flyers, pamphlets, posters, online, and social media.

Requirements

  • Two years of post-secondary education, preferably in Business or Education.
  • Provincial Instructor's Diploma preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Significant coordination experience and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of marketing and accounting.
  • Culturally sensitive and inclusive.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License.
