Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Legal Transactional Expert to join our team in Toronto, Canada. This hybrid position requires working from the office at least 3 days a week (with at least 1 day being a Monday or a Friday), subject to business needs.

In this role, you will provide expert legal advice and counsel to Scotiabank's senior executive management team on domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, equity investments, complex commercial arrangements, reorganizations, and other strategic transactions.

You will contribute to the overall success of the Legal Department in Canada, ensuring specific individual goals and objectives are executed in support of the Bank's business strategies.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience evaluating, negotiating, structuring, and leading complex cross-border M&A transactions from a leading international law firm. You will require significant experience with various specialized areas of law, including corporate, commercial, and securities law.

  • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Provide expert legal advice and counsel on domestic and international Transactions, complex commercial arrangements, and regulatory matters.
  • Legal lead/team member on high-volume internal corporate reorganizations and restructurings.
  • Make strategically important decisions in a demanding, time-sensitive, and complex transactional environment.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate complex legal documentation that protects Scotiabank's interests.
  • Perform complex evaluations of acquisition candidates in high-volume due diligence exercises.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A graduate degree from a recognized law school.
  • At least 4 years of private practice or in-house experience.
  • Membership in the law society of one of the provinces of Canada.
  • Exceptional analytical, leadership, problem-solving, relationship-building, negotiating, communication, and project/people management skills.
Estimated Salary Range

The estimated annual salary for this position is $150,000-$200,000 CAD, depending on experience and qualifications.
