Toronto, Ontario, Canada Doormat Full time

About Doormat

We're on a mission to simplify real estate law at Doormat, and we need your expertise to make it happen. The current process has seen little innovation, resulting in an outdated client experience that doesn't match today's consumer expectations. Our company provides end-to-end real estate legal services using a proprietary digital solution, bringing transparency and simplicity to the process.

Job Overview:

We're seeking an experienced Associate Real Estate Lawyer to oversee residential real estate transactions from initial onboarding through to close. Your primary objective will be to deliver the necessary legal expertise and insight to facilitate property purchases, sales, and refinances. In partnership with our client-facing team, you'll provide a top-tier client experience that combines transparency, efficiency, and care.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Legal Advisory: Provide expert legal guidance and execution on assigned matters, including key document review, third-party liaison, and client advising.
  • Matter Oversight: Collaborate with Client Success Managers to ensure transactions are on track and responsibilities are fulfilled.
  • Client Support: Offer guidance, support, and advice to clients for all legal inquiries.
  • Product Insight: Inform product development and enhancements to improve the Doormat experience for both clients and our team.

You'll also contribute to various projects outside your traditional role as a real estate lawyer, supporting our ambitious company goals.

Requirements:

  1. 1-3 years of experience as a licensed attorney in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario, specializing in real estate law.
  2. A comfort level with ambiguity, as our startup environment requires adapting to changing priorities and undefined paths forward.
  3. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a passion for working with people and navigating challenging conversations.
  4. Strong organizational abilities, with attention to detail and the capacity to juggle multiple priorities efficiently.
  5. A problem-solving mindset, thriving in situations where challenges arise and requiring quick action.
  6. A driven, entrepreneurial approach, taking ownership of work and embracing a 'work like an owner' mentality.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Existing relationships with real estate and mortgage brokerages;
  • Previous experience working at a startup or in a similar entrepreneurial environment;
  • Client service and/or sales experience;
  • Familiarity with software tools such as GSuite, Slack, and Front.

What We Offer:

  • A competitive salary ($120,000 per year);
  • An Employee Stock Option Plan (ESOP) opportunity;
  • Benefits package;
  • The chance to be part of a venture-backed startup;
  • Hybrid work arrangement (Toronto office and remote work options).
