Mental Health Nurse Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse/RPN to join our team in White Rock, B.C. as a Relief Full Time Mental Health and Substance Use Services, Older Adult professional. With an estimated salary of $85,000 - $110,000 per annum, this role presents an excellent opportunity for those passionate about delivering exceptional patient care.
About the RoleThis position is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for assigned clients, developing and implementing psycho-social rehabilitative plans, and facilitating individual and/or group treatment. Our ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, and a commitment to providing person-centered care.
Key Responsibilities:- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned clients
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and document psycho-social rehabilitative plans
- Facilitate individual and/or group treatment sessions
- Provide life skills training and respond to medical/psychiatric emergencies
- Actively participate in and support the total therapeutic program of the Unit
- Collect information from various sources to provide appropriate nursing care
- Write timely and accurate reports of relevant assessments and observations
- Communicate and consult with members of the healthcare team regarding client care
- Advocate for clients' rights to autonomy, respect, privacy, dignity, and access to information
- Participate in quality improvement activities and research by identifying patient care issues and collecting data
- Maintain a safe environment for clients, families, and staff by adhering to established safety and emergency practices and procedures
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing
- One (1) year recent related mental health experience in an acute, tertiary, or community setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
- May require completion of a substance use certificate program
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and access to personal vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage
- Ability to complete initial and ongoing mental health and substance use client assessment and provide nursing care
- Knowledge of mental illness and substance use treatment
- Working knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery
- Knowledge of psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects)
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with clients, families/care givers, the public, medical staff, and members of the interprofessional care team
- Ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for clients/families/care givers, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, including advocacy for special populations
- Ability to educate clients and families/care givers about topics essential to their health care and well-being
- Ability to organize and prioritize work
- Ability to collaborate with and promote cooperation among members of the interprofessional care team
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
