Job Summary

The Professional Practice Clinician (PPC) plays a pivotal role in advancing quality of care in the adult inpatient mental health setting. This dynamic professional is responsible for clinical teaching, staff development, and implementing strategies to enhance inter-professional practice team capacity and competence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives to optimize client outcomes and experience.
  • Design and deliver staff orientation and education activities to enhance nursing and allied health staff skills.
  • Facilitate continuous learning and professional development among staff through coaching, mentoring, and education.
  • Provide consultation to teams on complex clinical issues, standards of care, and best practices.
  • Maintain current knowledge on evidence-based practices and standards to mentor and role-model to others.
  • Develop, review, and revise policies and procedures related to professional practice and clinical care.
  • Develop and implement quality indicators to monitor and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Support program planning, development, and evaluation to optimize client outcomes and experience.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and inter-professional collaboration.
  • Collaborate with other PPCs to plan and organize corporate quality management and educational initiatives.
Qualifications
  • BScN or BN required.
  • Masters Degree in Nursing, Education, or Health Administration preferred.
  • Active member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • Certification with the Canadian Nurses' Association in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing (CPMHNc).
  • Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in acute mental health settings.
  • Knowledge and expertise in least restraint practices and non-violent crisis intervention.
  • Research and outcome evaluation skills.
  • Knowledge of mental health and concurrent disorders best practices.
  • Understanding of conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated quality improvement strategies.
  • Ability to lead change.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and team leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated research or program evaluation skills.
  • Skilled in the principles of adult learning and experienced in teaching adult learners.
  • Training and experience in utilizing quality improvement methods such as LEAN.
  • Proven track record of successful implementation strategies, projects, and partnerships.
  • In-depth knowledge related to clinical assessment, planning, and interventions related to addictions and mental health services.
  • Sound knowledge of adult training methods.
  • Experience creating, delivering, and evaluating training materials.
