At Scotiabank, we're seeking a Senior Financial Risk Manager to join our Accounting Policy and Procedures Group. As a key member of this team, you will play a vital role in implementing hedging strategies under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) to ensure the Bank qualifies eligible derivatives for hedge accounting treatment.

This dynamic position offers an exciting opportunity to gain experience with systems and technical accounting knowledge in various Bank's financial products, valuations & analysis, and reporting. You'll collaborate daily with front office and other business lines with their hedging requests, reviewing eligibility, identifying associated strategies, and completing required documentation.

You'll be responsible for ongoing monitoring of hedging relationships to ensure they continue to meet requirements for hedge qualification and have high effectiveness. Additionally, you'll ensure all instruments in hedging relationships are active and obtain confirmation of hedged item existence and hedge activity from various business areas monthly.

Your tight month-end close will require reconciling, analyzing, and communicating the hedge accounting results for various hedging units to Group Treasury and other business partners. You'll also prepare information for quarterly and annual financial disclosure, provide support for ad-hoc analysis, and financial reporting.

To succeed in this role, you should possess self-driven, analytical, and collaborative problem-solving skills, along with strong communication skills. Solid knowledge of finance and financial products, including various derivatives, is essential. A post-secondary degree in Finance/Accounting/business with a minimum of 4 years of industry experience is required. An accounting designation (CPA) or working towards designation is highly valued, while a CFA designation is desirable.
