Overview

We are seeking a seasoned lawyer to join our team as Senior Counsel, providing expert legal support to the Canadian Personal Banking and Savings business.

Salary Information

The estimated annual salary for this position is approximately $200,000-$250,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

Job Description

In this role, you will provide legal services to Canadian Banking personal banking and savings lines of business, acting as a legal and regulatory expert. You will partner with the business unit to advise on anticipated changes in legal requirements affecting its activities and operations, having regard to the business unit's strategic goals, objectives, business plans, and initiatives.

You will collaborate with business risk and compliance functions on regulatory compliance issues relating to the products and lines of business supported, and help develop risk appetite for the lines of business. Additionally, you will participate in industry meetings of specialists, support transformational projects and new initiatives undertaken by the lines of business, and collaborate with other members of RBC Law Group and other functional units to provide legal advice and support across horizontal business initiatives.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Qualified as a lawyer in Canada in common and/or civil law
  • 5+ years of relevant experience gained in private practice or in-house roles
  • A high level of proficiency in specialized and complex areas of law, particularly banking and consumer protection law
  • Excellent communication and drafting skills
  • Strong risk assessment and business judgment, and be comfortable managing competing priorities, making independent decisions, and working under tight deadlines

Additional Details

This full-time contract position will be located in Toronto, Canada, and will report to Managing Counsel, Personal Banking and Lending Products. The employment type is regular, and the pay type is salaried.
