About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled AVP Underwriting Policy Leader to join our team at Aviva Canada. As a key member of our Underwriting team, you will play a critical role in driving the technical underwriting strategy for our Personal & Specialty Lines portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of underwriting policies and procedures to ensure alignment with our company's underwriting philosophy and risk management objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product, Customer, and IT, to drive the modernization and simplification of underwriting processes and systems.
  • Embed a strong risk culture within the team, ensuring individual accountability and ownership of risk management activities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including regulators, industry committees, and senior leadership teams.
  • Provide strategic guidance and support to the Underwriting Operations team to ensure effective execution of underwriting policies and procedures.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in underwriting to ensure our policies and procedures remain current and effective.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in technical insurance functions, including underwriting and claims.
  • Proven track record of working with regulators, industry committees, and senior leadership teams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect, coordinate, and disseminate significant information.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to correspond with senior leaders, peers, and external contacts.
  • A solid understanding of company underwriting philosophy, PI underwriting strategy, policy contracts, PI products, risk information sources, and underwriting manuals.
