Job Title: AVP Underwriting Policy

Aviva Canada is seeking a highly skilled and experienced AVP Underwriting Policy professional to join our team. As a key member of our Underwriting team, you will play a critical role in driving the technical underwriting strategy for our Personal & Specialty Lines portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and implementation of underwriting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product, Customer, and IT, to drive simplification, modernization, and automation of underwriting processes.
  • Embed a strong risk culture within the team, ensuring individual accountability and ownership of risk management activities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including regulators, industry committees, and senior leadership.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on underwriting matters, including policy contracts, PI products, risk information sources, and underwriting manuals.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in Technical Insurance functions, including Underwriting, Claims, or a related field.
  • Proven track record with regulators, industry committees, and other regulatory boards across Canada.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect, coordinate, analyze, and disseminate significant information.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to correspond with senior leaders, peers, direct reports, and external contacts.
