Job Summary

Ottawa Public Library (OPL) provides accessible, innovative library and information services throughout the City of Ottawa, meeting the unique needs of diverse communities. The Public Service units are responsible for customer-centric public library activities, programs, and services for the Library's 33 branches, mobile, and digital services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and participate in daily operations/routines of circulation and/or information services.
  • Provide customer service within an assigned library branch/service.
  • Perform supervisory duties, manage circulation/collection/service reports and statistics.
  • Develop, implement, conduct, and evaluate children's programs.
  • Perform routine collection maintenance duties.
  • Coordinate volunteer resources at the branch.
  • Exercise responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the library branch/service.

Requirements

  • Completion of 2-year college diploma in Library and Information Technician Program, Early Childhood Education, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressively increased responsibilities in related library services, including supervisory function.
  • Language Requirement: Designated Day 1 Ready - immediate requirement for language proficiency: French: oral, reading, writing required. English: oral, reading, writing required.
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the Ottawa Public Library's satisfaction.
