Engine Service Officer, Field Operations

The Engine Service Officer (ESO) is a critical role responsible for training, supervising, and monitoring Locomotive Engineers (LE), Student Locomotive Engineers (SLE), and Conductor Locomotive Operators (CLO) on locomotive operations, train handling, and general locomotive engineer responsibilities. The ESO also monitors employee actions and safety performance, providing coaching, correction, and reporting as needed.
Main Responsibilities- Training and Development: Train, supervise, and monitor LE, SLE, and CLO on locomotive operation, train handling, and general locomotive engineer responsibilities.
- Locomotive Event Recorder (LER) Analysis: Obtain, analyze, and interpret LER data for accident or incident investigations, monitoring LE and crew performance, and productivity analysis.
- Guidance and Support: Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and assistance to Divisional Officers on locomotive operation, train handling matters, and LE's role and concerns.
- Planning and Coordination: Prioritize and plan ESO duties, adjust plans as needed, and maintain records regarding train separations and locomotive simulator maintenance.
- Experience: 3-5 years of service as a qualified Locomotive Engineer.
- Education/Certification: High School Diploma or equivalent, Railway Employee Qualification Standards for Operating Crew Regulation (QSOC) and Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) qualification.
- Competencies: Follows safety procedures, builds and maintains an internal network, collaborates with key stakeholders, inspires others, and adapts to changes.
