Locomotive Operations Specialist

The Locomotive Operations Specialist is a critical role responsible for training, supervising, and monitoring Locomotive Engineers (LE), Student Locomotive Engineers (SLE), and Conductor Locomotive Operators (CLO) on locomotive operations, train handling, and general locomotive engineer responsibilities. This position requires a strong understanding of railway operations, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Main Responsibilities- Train, supervise, and monitor LE, SLE, and CLO on locomotive operation, train handling, and general locomotive engineer responsibilities.
- Support and conduct SLE, Manager Locomotive Engineer Training (MLET), CLO, Locomotive Event Recorder (LER), Distributed Power (DP), Trip Optimizer (TO), and other courses as required.
- Be involved in classroom training, on-the-job training, check rides, and ride-alongs on trains, and counsel over telephone or voice radio.
- Analyze and interpret LER data for accident or incident investigations, monitoring LE and crew performance, and productivity analysis.
- Provide guidance to Divisional Officers on locomotive operation, train handling matters, and LE's role and concerns.
The role is performed indoors and outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditions and involves irregular working hours. The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidents. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and manage stress. The role requires frequent travel (30%) within Canada and the United States.
Requirements- Between 3 to 5 years of service as a qualified LE.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Railway Employee Qualification Standards for Operating Crew Regulation (QSOC) and Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) qualification.
- Valid Driver's Licence.
