Job Opportunity

We are seeking a part-time Learning Assistant to join our team at R.J. Hawkey School in Airdrie. As a Learning Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the diverse needs of learners within the classroom, school, and community settings throughout Rocky View Schools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide assistance to students with complex needs, including those requiring personal, medical care, and safety support
  • Implement and reinforce strategies as directed by teaching staff and identified in student Individualized Program Plans (IPPs)
  • Record observations and data on behavioral challenges and create records to support positive behavior strategies
  • Participate in collaborative planning meetings for IPPs and SSPs as requested
  • Assist with preparation of individualized program materials under the direction of the classroom teacher/student support teacher
  • Actively promote student learning and independence
  • Facilitate interaction among students with special needs and their peers
  • Respect confidentiality and maintain privacy of information related to students and personnel
  • Support students with routine personal care activities, such as toileting, movement, personal hygiene, eating, drinking, and feeding
  • Assist in exercising, adaptive physical education, range of motion programs, and fine and gross motor skills development as directed by a specialist and monitored by a teacher
  • Support students' medical needs as directed, including assisting with transfers, tube feeding, and managing tracheotomy needs, oxygen, catheterization, administration of prescription medication, and other routine medical requirements
Requirements
  • Education: Educational Assistant Certificate or a certificate/diploma in a related field
  • Experience: Minimum one (1) year experience working with students with challenging behavior and applying positive behavior supports
  • Certifications: CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to become certified
