About the Role

SickKids Foundation is seeking a highly skilled corporate lawyer to support the Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Risk Officer in providing general legal advice and consultation to all levels of the Foundation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and negotiate agreements in all areas, including supplier agreements, requests for proposals, master services agreements, statement of work, IT agreements, licensing agreements, consulting agreements, gift agreements, sponsorship agreements and related matters;
  • Respond promptly to a wide variety of legal requests from internal and external stakeholders and effectively communicate practical legal advice;
  • Support the Foundation with privacy and confidentiality issues;
  • Assist the Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Risk Officer with risk management activities;
  • Assist the Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Risk Officer with development of policies and procedures for the Foundation;
  • Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of SickKids Foundation legal processes, templates and repositories of legal resources, embracing the use of technology in the delivery of legal services;
  • Conduct legal research as needed;
  • Help ensure compliance with laws, regulations and SickKids Foundation policies;
  • Various other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • LL.B/J.D. Degree and minimum 7 years' experience in corporate/commercial law with a particular focus on drafting of agreements;
  • Licensed to practice in Ontario and in good standing;
  • Experience in Charity Law considered an asset (not a requirement);
  • Strong business acumen;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal);
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities while paying attention to detail;
  • Ability to influence and negotiate effectively, ability to be a persuasive advocate;
  • Proactive, self-motivated, mission-driven attitude and approach; and
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and complex concepts, and working independently, without much direction, if necessary.

Total Compensation Package

Hiring Salary Range: $131,452 – $164,315; with the ability to progress to a maximum of $188,963. To ensure fair and equitable pay at SickKids Foundation, placement on the salary range will be based on your years of experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the Director, Legal.
