The Systems Administrators at ILM are instrumental in designing, building, and advancing the technology that empowers artists to create breathtaking visuals. Working closely with creative teams in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, they contribute to the development of innovative solutions across studios in San Francisco, Vancouver, London, Sydney, and Mumbai.

Job Summary

This Hybrid role involves working 2-3 days on-site at a designated location and occasionally from home. As a key member of the ILM Vancouver studio team, you will perform a wide range of tasks and projects related to operational support, infrastructure design, and maintenance.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with technology teams, artists, and production to craft and maintain efficient software and hardware systems
  • Participating in day-to-day operations, resolving issues, and providing guidance to team members
  • Supervising and maintaining the health of core infrastructure supporting production environments, including workstations, servers, storage, network, and security
  • Optimizing and updating existing systems and services, focusing on performance, security, and reliability, and enhancing observability and tracking metrics
  • Leading technical projects from initial shape-up to completion and participating as a partner and contributor to others' ideas
  • Supporting ad-hoc requests and needs from creative and technology leadership, connecting with others to settle requirements, and implementing recommended proposals
  • Maintaining systems administration standards and practices through well-crafted documentation and playbooks

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Experience in and passion for open-source and Linux software
  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience with proven work in a technical field
  • Effective time management, with the skill to balance and prioritize multiple concurrent requests while maintaining high standards in service delivery and follow-through
  • Meticulous customer service skills, delivered with a caring and compassionate spirit
  • Agile and flexible mentality, comfortable with changing requirements and goalposts
  • Significant experience managing updates and configurations for Linux-based infrastructure at scale
  • Ability to automate workflows and provide ad-hoc solutions using bash, python, or other languages
  • Experience administering and supporting a multi-OS environment, including Linux, Windows, and macOS, for both server and desktop
  • Excellent documentation skills, including writing for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience working with cloud or cloud-like infrastructure and services, including virtual and bare-metal servers, storage, and networking
  • Previous experience in visual effects, gaming, or similar creative studio environments is desirable

Salary and Benefits

The estimated annual salary for this position in Vancouver is $84,100 to $107,700, based on a 40-hour work week. The actual base pay offered may vary depending on internal equity, geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A comprehensive range of medical, financial, and/or other variable pay or benefits may be offered, dependent on the level and position offered.
