The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Social Worker to join our team at the IWK Health Centre. As a member of our inter-professional team, you will provide screening, assessment, and individual and group treatment to youth who are in conflict with the law. You will also be responsible for case management and community liaison, working closely with youth, their families, and community partners to provide comprehensive care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical services to youth in the Secure Care Unit, including individual and group therapy, case management, and community liaison.
  • Collaborate with the inter-professional team to develop and implement treatment plans that meet the unique needs of each youth.
  • Work closely with community partners, including schools, social services, and healthcare providers, to ensure seamless care and support for youth and their families.
  • Participate in ongoing planning, development, and evaluation of Youth Forensic Services, providing education and consultation as required.
  • Utilize evidence-based practice and interventions to provide high-quality care to youth and their families.
Requirements
  • Masters Degree in Social Work required.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW).
  • Minimum two (2) years clinical experience as a Masters prepared Social Worker working in the field of Child and Adolescent Mental Health is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill using an anti-oppressive, harm reduction, evidence-based treatment modality (i.e. CBT).
  • Knowledge of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, Children and Family Services Act, and the Criminal Code of Canada required.
  • Clinical experience in a community mental health/forensics setting preferred and experience in case management and working with youth preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in and knowledge of assessment and treatment with a variety of treatment modalities; knowledge and experience with DSM-V.
  • Comprehensive understanding of community-based services and resources preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and excellent time management and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to function autonomously and within the inter-professional team.
  • Skills of collaboration, consultation, liaison, and negotiation with clients/family, team members, justice service providers, schools, community support services, inpatient services, and other partners.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, email, etc.).
  • Must have a valid NS Driver's License, regular use of a reliable vehicle, and appropriate insurance. Travel as required. Compensation is paid.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset.
