Job Summary

The Senior Human Resources Operations Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the effective management of human resources activities within the School. Key responsibilities include planning and coordinating infrastructure, operational management of HR activities, assessment of HR needs, drafting position descriptions, hiring, reclassifications, and terminations. The successful candidate will also be responsible for managing faculty, staff, and student recruitment and appointment processes.

Operational Management

  • Works collaboratively with the Director, Strategic Planning & Operation and the Human Resources Manager to contribute to setting and implementing strategic plans, goals, and objectives for HR.
  • In collaboration with the Human Resources Manager, assesses the need for improvements and implements administrative policies, practices, and procedures related to human resource issues.
  • Ensures that HR activities are consistent with UBC policies and procedures, working closely with the Human Resources Manager and UBC Human Resources and Faculty Relations personnel.

Recruitment and Appointment

  • Responsible for the management of recruitment activities, appointment, reappointment, immigration, termination, leaves, and promotion process for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Provides guidance and information to faculty and other supervisors on terms of employment, collective agreements, employee relations, conflict resolution, leave entitlements, position classifications, compensation, performance management, and reviews.

Employee Support

  • Advises faculty and staff on human resource issues such as performance, leave management, collective agreements, disciplinary actions, and grievances.
  • Develops and establishes practices for attracting, retaining, and developing staff, including staying current on HR best practices, health and wellness, performance management, coaching, and mentoring.

School Website and Orientation

  • Oversees HR content on the School website and ensures it is up-to-date.
  • Assists the Human Resources Manager in developing and monitoring the orientation process for faculty, staff, students, and visitors to the SBME.

Workplace Safety

  • Ensures the workplace meets UBC standards for occupational health and safety, collaborating with the Human Resources Manager, Director, Strategic Planning & Operation, and other administrative managers.

Faculty Appointment Process

  • Manages academic faculty appointment, reappointment, promotion, and tenure processes within the School, ensuring compliance with university and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Drafts documentation for appointment, promotion, and tenure reviews and recruitment for all academic, clinical, and honorary faculty.

Staff and Student Recruitment

  • Manages all activities related to employment for staff and student hires in the School, including funding verification, job descriptions, position classification, offer letters, workflow approvals, and collective agreement interpretation.

Salary Information

This is a senior-level position with an estimated annual salary range of $110,000 - $130,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
