Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Support Specialist to join our team at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. As an integral member of our school community, you will provide support to students with exceptional needs, working collaboratively with teaching and other professional staff to ensure a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and developmental disabilities, adapting programs and strategies to meet their unique needs.
  • Participate in pool programs, academic support, and implement special programs, including support for deaf/hard of hearing or visually impaired students, physiotherapy exercises, and stretches.
  • Modify programs and support learning for students with learning disabilities and speech/language issues, utilizing assistive technology and behavioral management systems.
  • Perform yard duties, lifting, toileting, and/or pool duties as required.
Requirements
  • Community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of related experience working with school-aged special needs children.
  • Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C.
  • Completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with educational communication software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Curriculum and assistive technology.
