Medical Unit Coordinator

Job Summary:
The Medical Unit Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative support to the healthcare team in a medical unit. This role involves recording unit admissions, discharges, and transfers, and reporting this information to the Admitting Department. The coordinator will also provide reception and clerical functions, including printing daily flowsheets and staffing rotations, transcribing assignments, and scheduling appointments for patient/resident activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Record unit admissions, discharges, and transfers, and report this information to the Admitting Department.
- Provide reception and clerical functions, including printing daily flowsheets and staffing rotations, transcribing assignments, and scheduling appointments for patient/resident activities.
- Collect and communicate discharge data for referral, and collect and report unit statistics.
- Perform reception duties, including greeting and directing visitors, answering the telephone, taking messages, answering routine inquiries, directing calls, and opening and distributing mail.
- Assist the Manager or designate to identify staffing issues by transcribing and printing staffing rotations, and assignments.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 and graduation from an approved Nursing Unit Clerk program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to keyboard at 40 w.p.m.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Ability to organize work.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
