Telesat Canada, a leading global satellite operator, is seeking a highly skilled Satellite Communications RF Systems Engineer to join our team.

We provide reliable and secure satellite-delivered communications solutions worldwide to broadcast, telecommunications, corporate and government customers for over 50 years. Our state-of-the-art fleet consists of 15 GEO satellites, the Canadian payload on ViaSat-1 and one LEO 3 demonstration satellite.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining system verification and validation plans of the Telesat LEO constellation communication system. They will participate in various testing activities across the Telesat Leo system with vendors and other partners and maintain the lab.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and participate in RF and system-level testing activities including test planning, execution, and reporting.
  • Serve as an RF expert and support other technical staff as required.
  • Play an active role in component and subsystem design and test activities.
  • Configure test equipment like Satellite Link Emulators, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, etc.
  • Ensure product under test meets technical, functional, performance, and business requirements.
  • Keep the lab functional and up-to-date with known hardware and software configurations to execute various test scenarios as necessary.
  • Work with partners and other vendors in various test campaigns.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Minimum 10 years of work experience in Satellite RF communication systems with strong exposure on modulation and coding used in modern standards like DVB-S2(X) and DVB-RCS2.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in RF testing in Ka bands.
  • Hands-on experience using RF test equipment (Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators, Spectrum Analyzers, satellite channel emulator).
  • Strong understanding of RF engineering principles and design practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of air interfaces, modem technologies, modulation and coding and its impact on the satellite link performance.
  • Experience with satellite link budget analyses with good understanding of effects of impairments on the link performance.
  • Experience in test case and defect tracking tools (Jira, Jama).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management, engineering teams and partners/suppliers.
  • Proficient with MATLAB, Python.
