About the Role

Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre is seeking a skilled Certified Social Worker to join our team. As a key member of our community development team, you will play a vital role in supporting the well-being and resilience of Indigenous peoples in Thunder Bay.

Job Summary

This is a temporary full-time position working 35 hours per week. You will be responsible for assessing client situations, providing counseling and therapy, and advocating on behalf of clients. A valid driver's license and own vehicle are assets for this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess client situations and needs, developing effective plans to address their challenges
  • Provide counseling and therapy services to support clients in achieving personal and social goals
  • Advocate on behalf of clients, ensuring their voices are heard and respected
  • Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary team, collaborating with colleagues to achieve shared goals
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling services and make recommendations for improvement
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A bachelor's degree in social work or a related field
  • Provincial registration as a social worker
  • Mental health first aid certification
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications

While not required, experience in child welfare, community development, education, or health would be an asset. Additionally, proficiency in Anishinaabe languages or cultural competency training would be beneficial.
