About the Role:

Southeast Child Family Services is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Direct Service Worker. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing protection and prevention services to young adults and families in our designated First Nations community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide protection and prevention services to young adults and families in our designated First Nations community.
  • Manage caseloads specific to Family Protection and Children-In-Care with prescribed timelines.
  • Work in and intervene in crisis situations in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with community resources for clients and team members.
  • Participate in Agency events, training, and work flexible hours as required.
  • Facilitate group meetings, build teams, and make decisions; take initiative, solve problems, lead, plan, coordinate, and facilitate meetings; de-escalate conflict, and provide solutions.
  • Manage cases and files effectively; manage stress, time, and documentation detail (e.g., CFSIS, IM, etc.).
  • Work in a team-based environment and take on independent responsibilities.
  • Travel to designated First Nations communities and rural areas as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Social Work (or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
  • A minimum of two (2) years' experience in front-line case management with Children-in-Care and families.
  • Experience conducting investigations, including gathering and analyzing information to implement appropriate action(s).
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of and familiarity with:
  • Indigenous culture and an understanding of the rural cultural environment.
  • The Child and Family Services Act; The Adoption Act; An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth, and families; Indigenous child welfare practices; First Nations history; and colonization.
  • Crisis intervention; child protection investigations; assessment of high-risk situations to determine appropriate response times.
  • Substance abuse; family violence; child abuse/neglect; grief and loss issues; and community resources.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (specifically to documentation and report writing).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, and Outlook), CFSIS, and IM.
  • A valid driver's license; a reliable vehicle.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record; Child Abuse Registry; and Prior Contact Check.
