About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Network and Telecom Specialist to join our team at Canadian National Railway Company. As a key member of our Information & Technology team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the availability, stability, and performance of our network and telecom infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead and execute installations, upgrades, configuration, and maintenance of the networking infrastructure.
  2. Review and approve change controls to ensure seamless integration with existing systems.
  3. Conduct quality reviews of infrastructure changes and implementations to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  4. Lead lifecycle projects, analyzing, testing, and deploying new technologies to optimize network performance.
  5. Investigate and resolve complex network issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure timely resolution.
  6. Perform preventive maintenance tasks to ensure optimal network performance and availability.
  7. Monitor and maintain system availability and performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.
  8. Collaborate with team members to develop and implement process improvements, ensuring seamless integration with existing workflows.
  9. Develop and maintain operational documentation, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information for team members.
  10. Provide advanced troubleshooting, vulnerability, and bug correction services, working closely with vendors to resolve complex issues.
  11. Ensure compliance with all relevant CN IT standards, ensuring the highest level of security and integrity.
  12. Train and coach team members on new capabilities and emerging technology trends, ensuring a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  13. Automate and optimize support tasks, streamlining processes to improve efficiency and productivity.
  14. Provide 3rd-level support to pager roster, rotating through a 24/7 schedule to ensure seamless coverage.
Requirements
  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent, with a focus on Telecommunications.
  2. 5+ years of experience in IT, with a minimum of 3+ years of demonstrated expertise in providing hands-on technical support in large corporate environments.
  3. Expertise in LAN/WAN technologies, IPAM, and Datacenter technologies.
  4. Knowledge and troubleshooting skills in EIGRP, IS-IS, BGP, MP-BGP, MPLS, redistribution between different routing protocols.
  5. Knowledge of TCP/IP stack, IPv4, TCP, UDP, ICMP, ARP, GRE, IPSEC, ESP, NAT, DHCP, DNS, FHRPs, QoS, SNMP, Tacacs, Radius.
  6. Knowledge of Cisco Wi-Fi networks, including Cisco Prime, WLCs, APs, ISE, and related technologies.
  7. Experience/knowledge in SD-WAN solutions and cloud solutions (Google, Azure).
  8. Experience and knowledge in operations and optimization of IP networks.
  9. Good understanding of communications media (fibre, copper, wireless) and structured cabling best practices.
  10. Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
  11. Cisco CCNP/CCIE Certification or equivalent knowledge.
