About the Role

At Family Services of Greater Vancouver, we provide compassionate, client-centered care to youth experiencing homelessness, families and children impacted by trauma, victims of domestic violence, and other vulnerable people from an evidence-based, trauma-informed lens.

Job Summary

The Child & Youth Worker provides one-to-one and group support for children and youth from 7-15 years of age, who may experience mental, emotional or behavioural challenges. In consultation with the Program Coordinator, the Child and Youth Care Worker formulates goals, action plans and strategies together with clients and their caregivers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide community-based recreational activities to support clients in developing life skills, age-appropriate independence, self-confidence and social responsibility.
  • Use coaching, modelling and supportive counselling to help clients overcome mental, emotional or behavioural challenges.
  • Work with clients and their caregivers to develop and implement goals, action plans and strategies to address their needs.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of client progress and interactions.
Requirements
  • One year of post-secondary education, training in child/youth care, or a related field.
  • Minimum one year experience working with children and youth with mental, emotional, behavioural challenges or those transitioning through family changes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with hard to reach children, youth and their families.
  • Ability to identify health and safety issues for children and youth.
  • Knowledge of child development, transitional themes, family dynamics.
  • Ability to maintain a client's safety in the community.
  • Competency in maintaining confidential relevant documentation.
